Najwa Nimri is a Spanish actress and singer. She is best known for her character as Zulema Zahir in the prison drama television series Vis A Vis (Locked Up).

Najwa’s full name is Najwa Nimri Urrutikoetxea. She was born on 14 February 1947 in Pamplona, Spain. In her childhood she moved to Bilbao where she started her education, Now she is living in Madrid.

Najwa started her film career in 1995 with the film Salto al Vacio. Her first three films are directed by her ex-husband Daniel Calparsoro.

Initially, Najwa Nimri worked with small groups as a singer. In 1996 she formed her own music band named Najwajean. In 2001 Najwa released her first solo album Carefully. Her third album Walkabout sold out more than fifty thousand copies.

In 2001 Najwa appeared in the film Sex and Lucia (“Lucía y el Sexo” in Spanish). She appeared along with Paz Vega and Tristan Ulloa. The film became a huge hit and received global attention.

From 2015 Najwa Nimri started appearing in TV Series, Her first TV Series is Vis A Vis (Locked Up). In Vis A Vis she played an antagonist role as Zulema Zahir. It was a prison drama about young women who faced threats and challenges in prison. Najwa appeared along with Maggie Civantos and Alba Flores. The television show became a huge hit and it was telecasted in Netflix from 2017 as Locked Up. The series has completed four seasons and now the fifth season is going to be released in 2020.

Najwa Nimri’s mother is from the Navarrese community and her father Karam Nimri is a Jordanian. She was born on 14 February 1947 in Pamplona.

She has a brother Karam Nimri. Najwa has a one-half brother named Andre Nimri and two half-sisters Sara Nimri and Nadia Nimri. Najwa cousin Alexander Nimier is a singer.

In 1995 Najwa married Spanish film director Daniel Calparsoro. The couple were estranged and took divorce in 2000. Again Daniel re-married to the actress Patricia Vico.

Najwa has a son with her partner Martin. Her son’s name is Teo Nabil and he was born in 2004.
