Famous Jazz singer Norah Jones is a multitalented person. She is an actress, songwriter and musician. Norah made a sensation with her debut album Come Away With Me, which won five Grammy awards.
She is the daughter of legendary Indian musician Pandit Ravi Shankar and half-sister of guitarist Anoushka Shankar.
Norah full name is Geethali Norah Jones Shankar, She was born on 30 March 1979 in Manhattan, New York. Jones parents are separated after a few months of her birth. Norah is raised by her mother alone and she hasn’t met her father until the age of 9.
She attended Grapevine High School in Texas and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas. From childhood, Norah became interested in music. At a very young age, she started singing in local churches, attended music classes and learned to play different musical instruments such as piano, saxophone, guitar. She used to participate in bands and sang choir in her school.
Norah went to the University of North Texas where she majored in Jazz Piano and she used to sang with fellow jazz singers in the university. While in the university she had a chance to meet musician Jesse Harris, He was on a visit to watch the band play by his friends in the university. Jesse was impressed by Jones passion to the music and he used to send her music sheets of his songs.
After one year Jones left the university and moved to New York City where she started a band with Jesse Harris. Jones mainstream music career began in New York City. In 2001 she released extended play First Sessions, by collaborating with Blue Note Records.
Jones released her debut album Come Away With Me in 2002, which became a huge hit and sold more than 27 million copies. The album ranked number one position on Billboard. This album was nominated for eight Grammy awards and won five Grammy’s. All eyes fell on the Jones and she became very popular with her maiden album.
In 2004 Jones released her second album Feels Like Home, which won one Grammy award. She co-wrote lyrics for each song in her third album Not Too Late.
In 2007 Jones made her entry into the film industry with the movie My Blueberry Nights. She played the lead role of Elizabeth in the movie. Also, she wrote the song “The Story” for the movie.
Jones fourth album The Fall was sold out more than 180000 copies in the first week of its release. She released her fifth album Little Broken Hearts in 2012 and her sixth album Day Breaks in 2016.

Sue Jones and Ravi Shankar had maintained an affair while Ravi Shankar was doing music concerts in America. They haven’t married and Norah Jones was born in 1979. Ravi Shankar and Sue Jones lived together around five to seven years and finally got separated in 1986.
After her parent’s separation, Norah was raised by her mother alone, She has not met her father until the age of 9. She often traveled to India to met and spend time with her father. Ravi Shankar was died in 2012 due to health problems.
