Smriti Mandhana is an Indian female cricket player who plays for Indian women’s national team. She is a left-handed batsman and plays in opening position for India. Mandhana is the only player from India to score a double century in the domestic one-day game.
Smriti Mandhana comes from cricket family, Smriti father and brother are district-level cricket players.
Smriti Mandhana was born on 18 July 1996 in Mumbai. When she was two years old her family moved to Madhavnagar town in Sangli district of Maharashtra. Mandhana did her schooling in Sangli.
Early Life & Career
In childhood, Mandhana used to went with her father to watch her brother Shravan’s play. When Shravan’s scores runs, his name comes in the local newspapers, that was attracted Smriti Mandhana to try and play cricket. She goes to the nets along with her brother and her father bowls to her.At the age of 9, Mandhana was selected for Maharashtra Under-15 team. She was trained under Anant Tambwekar, he was a junior state coach. At the age of 11, she was selected for Maharashtra Under-19s.
In 2013 Under-19 tournament playing for Maharashtra team against Gujarat Smriti Mandhana scored 224 in 150 balls. It was the record in Indian women’s cricket history. Smriti is the only player to achieve double-hundred in a one-day game.
In 2013 Mandhana played her debut ODI international match against Bangladesh. In 2014 she played her debut test match against England, where she scored 22 in first and 51 runs in second innings.
Mandhana made her maiden hundred (102 runs) against Australia in 2016. Mandhana got a call to play in Big Bash League, She played for Brisbane Heat for one year. Madhana’s knee got injured while fielding in a match against Melbourne Renegades. It took her six months to recover from the injury.
After recovering from the injury she was selected into the 2017 world cup squad. Smriti Madhana played an important role in the world cup to reach her team to final. In the world-cup series, Mandhana scored 90 runs against England and a century (106 runs) against West Indies.
In 2018 Mandhana scored the fastest half-century (just in 30 balls) against the Australian team in a T20 match. Mandhana represents from Western Strom team in Wome’s Cricket Super League (WCSL). She scored a century and became player of the series in 2018 (Kia Super League) by scoring 421 runs.
Mandhana was the second player after Mithali Raj to score fastest 1000 runs in T20.
Smriti got a huge fan following after 2017 world-cup series. She is one of the people who made Indian women’s cricket to come into limelight especially in India where it is dominated by men’s cricket.
